The Comedy Attic is looking for “The Funniest Person In Bloomington.” Bloomington’s first and only full-time Comedy Club, located on 4th & Walnut, is proud to announce the Second Annual Bloomington Comedy Festival. The bracket-style tournament, held Wednesday nights at 8pm starting June 2nd, will boast a talent rich 27-comedian field. The festival will span nine Wednesdays at 8pm throughout June and July. Looking to defend his crown will be Bloomington resident and recent IU grad Tom Brady, winner of last summer’s inaugural Bloomington Comedy Festival. Brady will receive a first round bye, alongside the cream of Bloomington’s comedy crop- Josh Cocks, Jamison Raymond, Ben Moore and Joshua Murphy. Since last year’s festival, many contestants have earned prestigious credits in the comedy industry, including performing around the Midwest with some of the best in the business. Cocks worked with Greg Warren in Ft.Wayne; Raymond with Tommy Johnagin in Terre Haute; Ben Moore with John Roy in Peoria, IL. Moore also made his national television debut since last year’s festival, becoming the first comedian in Bloomington’s history to appear on The Bob & Tom Show, which airs on WGN America. While the tournament has several experienced participants, the audience vote participation element created major upsets throughout the entire 2009 festival. This aspect lends itself to a wide-open tournament sure to provide plenty of drama. Judging will be a top secret formula weighed heavily on audience participation and includes three judges- two full-time and one revolving guest judge. Ultimately, the comedian with the greatest audience response will be crowned the funniest in Bloomington. The widely popular “$25 tournament pass” will once again be available, which will grant fans admission to each week of the festival. Patrons who buy a tournament pass will also receive a pair of tickets to a future Comedy Attic show of their choice. Admission to each individual show will again be $5. The field includes local residents whose professions include an IU professor, a music booking agent, a Bloomingfoods worker, a Cook Pharmica employee, several IU students, and two Bloomington Playwright Project contributors. The broad array of individuals and experience levels promises an exciting festival sure to have an unexpected outcome.
